Abstract
Abstract A process for the recovery of liquid hydrocarbons in which brine is injected into the formation via an injection well and a mixture of liquid hydrocarbons together with brine contaminated with hydrogen sulfide is recovered through a production well. After separation of the liquid hydrocarbons, the brine is subjected to electrolysis to form sodium hypochlorite which reacts with the hydrogen sulfide to yield brine having a substantially reduced hydrogen sulfide content suitable for reinjection into the formation.
