Abstract
Abstract An apparatus for adaptively checking document thickness is provided, the apparatus having a transducer which senses a variation in the thickness of a document passing through a paper transport. Each new document thickness as indicated by the transducer is compared with a window established by the preceding document thickness. If the thickness of the current document meets prescribed limits as established by the preceding document, a memory element is updated to correspond to the thickness of the current document. Should the document thickness compare unfavorably with the window, an alarm signal is generated and the process halted without refreshing the memory element.
