Abstract

Abstract An electric incandescent lamp of the halogen type including an envelope of quartz glass having an external press seal composed of a flat mid-section limited by two plane parallel faces and two flanges extending parallel to the lamp axis and enclosing the mid-section so that the cross section of the seal in a plane perpendicular to the lamp axis is of I-shape. The lamp is provided with leads sealed into the press seal in the form of metal foil seals with outer lead wires protruding from the bottom end of the press seal as base contacts and including in the press seal, where it merges with the envelope body, a transverse depression or corrugation extending across substantially the entire width of the press seal.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 95 words
In an electric incandescent lamp comprising a light transmitting envelope body having an external press seal at at least one end thereof, said external press seal being substantially I-shaped in cross section and including two plane parallel faces constituting a webb portion lying between a pair of spaced parallel flange portions, and a pair of foil type leadin conductors sealed therein and connected in said envelope to a filament, the improvement comprising, a transverse depression extending across said webb portion between said flange portions adjacent the juncture of said press seal with said envelope body.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 95 words
In an electric incandescent lamp comprising a light transmitting envelope body having an external press seal at at least one end thereof, said external press seal being substantially I-shaped in cross section and including two plane parallel faces constituting a webb portion lying between a pair of spaced parallel flange portions, and a pair of foil type leadin conductors sealed therein and connected in said envelope to a filament, the improvement comprising, a transverse depression extending across said webb portion between said flange portions adjacent the juncture of said press seal with said envelope body.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
An incandescent lamp according to claim 1 wherein the thickness of said web portion is approximately twice the thickness at said depression.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 147 words
An electric incandescent lamp of the halogen type comprising: a lamp body having an envelope and a press seal portion; a pair of outer lead wires extending into said press seal portion; a pair of inner lead wires extending out of said press seal portion and extending into said envelope portion; a lamp filament connected between said inner lead wires within said envelope portion; metal foil leads connected between said outer lead wires and said inner lead wires within said press seal, said press seal being substantially I-shaped in cross-section and including two plane parallel faces constituting a webb portion lying between a pair of spaced parallel flange portions; and a transverse corrugation extending across said webb portion between said flange portions at a location between said foil leads and said envelope portion, thereby providing an area of substantially increased cold compressive strength to said press seal.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
An electric incandescent lamp according to claim 3 wherein the cross sectional thickness of said press seal at said web portion is approximately twice the cross sectional thickness at said corrugation.
