Abstract POLYMER COMPOSITIONS NORMALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO BURNING ARE RENDERED FLAME-RETARDANT BY THE INCORPORATION THEREIN OF 1,2,5,6-TETRABROMO-3,4-DIHYDROXYHEXANE. IN PARTICULAR, A HIGHER MELTING STEREOISOMERIC FORM OF THE LATTER COMPOUND PROVIDES ESSENTIALLY SCORCH-FREE, SELF-EXTINGUISHING POLYURETHANE FOAMS WHICH EXHIBIT A GOOD OVERALL COMBINATION OF PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES.
