Claim 1
Independent Claim
118 words
A pneumatic tire construction which includes spaced bead members, a connected toroidal carcass extending from bead to bead, a ground engaging tread carried at the crown thereof and interiorly disposed composite cord reinforcement members of individually varying extensibility, said cord members of greater extensibility being preselectively located in that region of said tire which is characterized by exposure to greater deflection inducing stress and said cord members of lesser extensibility being preselectively located in the region of said tire characterized by exposure to a lesser deflection inducing stress than said first-mentioned stress, said composite cord reinforcement members comprising a central core which is extensible and an overfeed of a multiplicity of continuous glass filaments carried by said core.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
17 words
The tire construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein said central core is formed of organic material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
24 words
The tire construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein the individual components said composite cord are held together by an elastomeric impregnant or matrix.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
219 words
In a tire construction composed of a pair of spaced annular beads adapted to engage the rim portions of a vehicle wheel, a multiple-ply carcass extending toroidally between said beads and a ground contacting tread carried at the crown portion of said carcass, said components all including a continuous elastomeric phase; the improvement wherein said plies making up said carcass include at least two plies, one of which is radially innermost and the other is radially outermost, each ply including mutually parallel composite cords bias inclined oppositely to the cords in the other ply, said composite cords each including extensible and substantially inextensible subassemblies combined together to form a composite cord assembly, said extensible subassemblies being formed of an organic material selected from the group consisting of rayon, polyamide, polyester, polyethylene, acrylic, polypropylene, ethylene propylene copolymer, and mixtures thereof, said substantially inextensible subassemblies being formed of a multiplicity of continuous glass filaments assembled together as a cord or bundle, said substantially inextensible subassemblies being longer than the extensible subassemblies in the inextended condition but the combination of the two together being such that the extra length is present in the form of overfeed of the inextensible subassemblies with respect to the extensible subassemblies, said cords in said outermost ply possessing a greater amount of overfeed of said inextensible subassemblies.

Claim 7
Dependent Claim
143 words
In a tire construction composed of a pair of spaced annular beads adapted to engage the rim portions of a vehicle wheel, a multiple-ply carcass extending toroidally between said beads and a ground contacting tread carried at the crown portion of said carcass, said components all including a continuous elastomeric phase; the improvement wherein said carcass includes a plurality of bias plies each composed of a plurality of mutually parallel composite cords, said cords in adjacent plies being oppositely inclined, said composite cords in said plies each including a central core of elongate organic material and an overfeed of continuous glass filaments combined with said organic core, said cords in the outermost ply including the greater amount of overfeed of said glass filaments and the cords in each successively innermost ply having respectively less overfeed than the cords in the next outermost ply.
