Abstract
Abstract An exterior molding for automobiles having a channel shaped metallic member filled with vinyl material and a vinyl bumper secured to the outer surface of the channel. Adhesive tape is employed to secure the molding to the supporting surface. The surfaces of the channel are selectively primed and vinyl material is extruded directly on to the surfaces of the channel and removed from the un-primed surfaces.

The method of manufacturing a trim strip structure comprising the steps of: providing an elongated strip of channel-shaped metallic material having a generally transverse portion with leg portions depending from either side thereof and having inner and outer surfaces; securing a vinyl polymeric material to the inner surface of said channel to fill the inner space thereof between said leg portions, securing a strip of vinyl polymeric material to at least a portion of the outer surface of said channel, severing a predetermined length of said strip structure from a continuous length thereof, bending over the metallic material to cover the exposed severed edge of the vinyl polymeric material in said channel, and removing any excess vinyl polymeric material adjacent to the severed end of the said strip thereby to provide a generally planar lower surface on said vinyl polymeric material.
