Abstract

Abstract The oxides of certain metals including iron, chromium, manganese, vanadium and titanium may be finely ground or otherwise pulverized and supplied in a gas flow stream to the heating region of an arc heater. In the heating region an electric arc capable of producing temperatures sufficient to free hydrocarbon radical ions from hydrocarbon gas may be used to assist in separating the metal from the metal oxide ore.
