Abstract

Abstract A high-voltage circuit breaker has a primary switch, an auxiliary switch and a resistor connected in series with said auxiliary switch. The serial combination of the resistor and the auxiliary switch is in parallel with the primary switch. The primary switch and the auxiliary switch have a common mechanical drive movable to various positions for actuating the switches. The auxiliary switch has a spring for holding it in the open position and a force-coupled connector is provided for forcecoupling the drive to the auxiliary switch. The connector is disengageable from the drive in dependence upon the position of the drive. When the breaker operates, the auxiliary switch closes prior to the closing of the primary switch and opens again after the primary switch is closed.
