Abstract A PROCESS FOR POLYBROMINATING AROMATIC COMPOUNDS BY REACTING AN AROMATIC COMPOUND WITH BROMINE AT A TEMPERATURE SUFFICIENT TO SUSTAIN A RAPID REACTION RATE IS IMPROVED BY CONDUCTING THE PROCESS IN THE PRESENCE OF A HALOGENATION CATALYSTS; FOR EXAMPLE, METAL HALIDES WHERE THE METAL IS SELECTED FROM ALUMINUM AND IRON, AND SOLVENT QUANTITIES OF METHYLENE BROMIDE.
