Abstract

Abstract A pattern is scored in a major surface of a piece of flat glass, and the score is propagated into a fracture that extends at least almost entirely to an opposite major surface of the piece. Heat is applied at a location adjacent to an edge of the piece until a red glow is visible at the glass surface. At that time, an edge nick is applied to the glass adjacent to the red glow to complete a vent from the edge nick to the fracture defining the pattern. This is repeated several times to free the pattern from its trim without damaging the edge of the pattern.
