Abstract
Abstract Label fouling in an automatic railroad car identification system is detected in response to the intensities of signals from coded visible panels. The identifying panels are color coded, and failing of the panels can produce errors in reading the code. The ratio of intensity of a pair of primary colors in light reflected from a white strip in the panel is used as the measure of degree of fouling.
