Abstract

Abstract An improved switch-operating mechanism is provided for translating linear motion of an actuating member, such as a handle mechanism, for example, into the rotary motion of a tray, or other rotatable member, which may carry, for example, one or more rotatably-actuated switch members. The switch members may take the form of movable finger assemblies, which electrically connect into the circuit one or more potential transformers to energized lines. Additionally, the improved switch mechanism of the present invention may be utilized for load-break switch application capable of interrupting load currents, or, in addition, the switch mechanism of the present invention may also be used for actuating non-load-breaking switch members.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 139 words
A switch comprising a stationary contact, a movable contact cooperable with said stationary contact, an operating mechanism for said switch comprising, in combination, an actuating member, a driving member, means pivotally mounting said driving member for rotative movement upon a fixed pivot, means mechanically engaging said actuating member with said rotatably-mounted driving member for effecting the rotation thereof about said fixed pivot, a rotatable carriage member carrying said movable contact for cooperating with said stationary contact, means pivotally mounting said carriage member for rotative movement about a fixed pivot, said fixed pivots being in nonconcentric relationship with respect to each other, and means carried by said driving member for mechanically engaging said rotatablymounted carriage member to effect the rotation of said carriage member and thereby effect the engaging and disengaging movements of said movable contact with said stationary contact.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 139 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The switch combination according to claim 1, wherein said actuating member moves along a linear line of travel.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
The switch combination according to claim 1, wherein the driving member is a cam plate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 45 words
The switch combination according to claim 1, wherein said driving member is a rotatable cam plate and has a pair of spaced detent portions, and a spring-biased roller assembly engages said detent portions for positively determining said open and closed positions of said cam plate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 46 words
The switch combination according to claim 1, wherein a movable shutter member is provided for isolation of said contacts in the open position, and a pivotally-mounted shutter lever for operating said movable shutter member is actuated by said driving member in its opening and closing movements.
