Abstract A PROCESS FOR PREPARING GEL PARTICLES FROM AN AQUEOUS SOL BY FORMING THE SOL INTO DROPLETS IN A LIQUID SYSTEM WHEREIN THE LIQUID PHASE CONTAINS A LIQUID ORGANIC SOLVENT AND A BARRIER AGENT. THE BARRIER AGENT PREVENTS DEHYDRATION FROM OCCURRING TOO RAPIDLY AND PERMITS SURFACE TENSION EFFECTS TO FORM SOL DROPLETS INTO THE DESIRED SPHEROIDAL SHAPE. A PREFERRED BARRIER AGENT IS MINERAL OIL.
