Abstract

Abstract A shaft of a turbo jet carrying the rotor of a turbine and receiving apparatus which applies to the shaft an axial thrust which is greater than that of the turbine and directed in the opposite direction, and supported in bearings of which one, acting as the thrust bearing, is located adjacent to the turbine and is mounted in a support which is translatorily movable and is held in abutment in the direction of the thrust of the receiving apparatus in such a way that in the case of a fracture of the shaft, the bearing is displaced by the thrust of the turbine until the rotor blades engage frictionally the stator vanes, thereby braking the turbine and preventing the risk of a disintegration of the turbine.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 164 words
In a turbo jet, comprising a driving turbine with a stator blading and a rotor equipped with blades and mounted on a shaft connected with a receiving apparatus which is spaced apart from the turbine and which, during operation, applies to the shaft an axial thrust which is larger than the thrust of the turbine and directed in the opposite direction, a bearing arrangement comprising a bearing acting as thrust bearing for the shaft and placed substantially immediately adjacent to the rotor of the turbine, a support for said bearing adapted to move translatorily, and means for holding the support in the direction of the thrust of the receiving apparatus in a position in which the rotor of the turbine can rotate, said support being adapted to move translatorily with the said bearing under the thrust of the turbine into a position in which the rotor blades engage frictionally with the stator vanes on the loss of the axial load of said receiving apparatus.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 164 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 87 words
A bearing arrangement as claimed in claim 1, in which the support comprises a body equipped with a mounting located with radial play relative to a mounting of a stationary part of the turbo jet, a front face adapted to be held in abutment by said means, and an axially directed extension provided with another mounting having radial play with respect to another mounting of the said stationary part, and in which the said body is supported by the said stationary part through an annular flexible disc.
