Abstract

Abstract A floor mounted tom tom drum having a drum beater mounted on one of the vertical legs thereof for beating the bottom head of the drum. The beater is actuated by a foot pedal which is connected to the beater by means of a resilient spring-like hard-surfaced substantially inextensible wire member carried within a flexible self-sustaining tubular guide member. A combination of percussion instruments including said tom tom drum as well as a foot pedaloperated high hat cymbal stand and a foot pedal-operated sidebeater base drum.

Total Claims: 2
Claim 1
Independent Claim 574 words
A combination of percussion instruments comprising: a high hat cymbal stand, a side-beater base drum and a floor mounted tom tom drum; three foot pedals for respectively operating said cymbal stand, said base drum and said tom tom drum; first and second foot pedal base plates, said foot pedal for said cymbal stand and for said tom tom drum being mounted in side-by-side relation on said first base plate for individual or joint actuation with one foot of a drummer, said foot pedal for said base drum being mounted on said second base plate for actuation by means of the other foot of the drummer; said tom tom drum comprising a plurality of vertical legs for supporting the shell of said tom tom drum, a drum beater, a drum beater mounting bracket pivotally mounting said drum beater on one of said vertical legs for beating the bottom head of said tom tom drum and comprising means for releasably and adjustably mounting said bracket on said one vertical leg; said drum beater comprising a beater rod, a beater head and means for mounting said beater rod on said mounting bracket for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis between a lower position and a drum beating position and for biasing said rod toward said lower position; a flexible actuating means comprising a flexible self-sustaining tubular guide member, means for connecting said guide member in fixed assembly at one end to said first base plate and at the other end to said mounting bracket, a resilient spring-like hard surface substantially inextensible wire member carried within said guide member for easy relative longitudinal movement therethrough and means for connecting said wire member at one end to said foot pedal and at the other end to said beater rod; said means for mounting said beater rod on said mounting bracket comprising a pivot arm and pin means for pivotally mounting said pivot arm on said mounting bracket, said pivot arm comprising means on one side of said pin means for securing said beater rod thereto in adjustable relation along the length of said rod and on the other side of said pin means for receiving one end of said wire member; said means for connecting said guide member to said base plate comprising a mounting block having an axial bore extending therethrough for receiving said guide member through one end thereof so that said one end of said wire member protrudes from the other end thereof, means forming a shoulder surface at said one end of said wire member extending transversely of the axis of said wire member, a second pivot arm mounted on said mounting block for pivotal movement about an axis transverse to the axis of said wire member in said bore and having a cooperating shoulder surface formed thereon for abutting engagement with said shoulder surface of said wire member, and means pivotally interconnecting said foot pedal for said tom tom drum and said second pivot arm for pIvoting said second pivot arm in response to pivotal movement of said foot pedal, said axial bore of said mounting block being threaded therethrough and said means for connecting said guide member to said base plate further comprising an externally threaded sleeve affixed to said one end of said guide member and threaded into said bore and a tightening nut threaded on said sleeve for snug abutment with said mounting block for securing said sleeve in said bore.
