Abstract

Abstract Auger apparatus, such as a coal mining machine, adapted to utilize one or more augers. Apparatus is disclosed embodying three augers in which two side augers are driven from a power source, and an intermediate auger is located between, and driven from one of, the side augers. Apparatus is also disclosed having a rigid cutting head assembly. Also disclosed is apparatus having a main gearbox connected to adjustable or removable auxiliary gearboxes, so that the apparatus can be adapted to drive one or more augers from a main gearbox. Also disclosed is an auger power system embodying two clutches. Also disclosed is a pendant control system for a hoist for handling auger sections.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 170 words
Auger apparatus comprising a frame; means on said frame for rotating and advancing a cutting head driven by a string of auger sections; and hoist means for lifting auger sections to add them to or remove them from said auger string, said hoist means comprising moveable supporting means adapted to move above and between a store of auger sections and said auger string, means for so moving said movable supporting means, auger section engaging means adapted to be raised and lower from said movable supporting means, means for so raising and lowering said auger section engaging means, and pendant control means for controlling operation of at least one of said means for moving said movable supporting means and said means for raising and lowering said auger section engaging means, said pendant control means being supported from a location on said hoist means other than said movable supporting means so no pendant portion of said pendant control means moves above and between said store of auger sections and said auger string.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 170 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
The apparatus of claim 1 in which said pendant control means controls operation of both said means for moving said movable supporting means and said means for raising and lowering said auger section engaging means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
The apparatus of claim 1 in which said pendant control means is supported by a flexible cable from said hoist means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 187 words
Auger apparatus comprising a frame; means on said frame for rotating and advancing a cutting head driven by a string of auger sections; hoist means for lifting auger sections to add them to or remove them from said auger string, said hoist means comprising an upright post rotatable about a vertical axis, actuating means for rotating said post about said axis, extensible boom means carried by said post and adapted to be extended and retracted laterally above and between a store of auger sections and said auger string, actuating means for extending and retracting said boom means, cable means carried by said boom means and carrying auger section engaging means adapted to be raised and lowered by said cable means, actuating means for operating said cable means to raise and lower said engaging means; and pendant control means for controlling operation of at least one of said actuating means, said pendant control means being supported from said post and not from said extensible boom means so no pendant portion of said pendant control means moves above and between a store of auger sections and said auger string.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
The apparatus of claim 4 in which said pendant control means controls operations of all of said actuating means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 20 words
The apparatus of claim 4 in which said pendant control means is supported by a flexible cable from said post.
