Abstract

Abstract In an absorption refrigerating machine, such as a salt absorption type of machine, control of the temperature in the refrigerant flash chamber is effected by bypassing absorbent around the absorber when the chamber temperature approaches the freezing temperature. Concentration of the salt solution is controlled by withdrawing refrigerant from the circuit into a chamber and dumping the refrigerant into the absorber circuit when there is a drop in the temperature of the cooling water entering the absorber. The heat input to the refrigerant generator is controlled in accordance with the load on the machine as determined by measuring the temperatures of the chilled water entering and leaving the evaporator.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 221 words
A refrigeration machine comprising: a refrigerant vapor generator; a refrigerant condenser; a which absorber-evaporator wich includes a housing having an absorber portion in which absorbent solution flows downwardly over cooling water conduit means and then to the bottom of said housing, said absorberevaporator also including an evaporator portion in which vaporizing refrigerant flows downwardly over chilled water conduit means; conduit means extending from the bottom of said absorber-evaporator housing to said generator for transferring all liquid which accumulates in the bottom of said housing to said generator; means disposed within said absorber-evaporator housing at a location below said chilled water conduit means and above the bottom of the housing for collecting and storing a mass of liquid refrigerant; normally closed dump valve means for selectively retaining the liquid refrigerant in said collecting and storing means and dumping the retained liquid refrigerant by gravity into the bottom of said housing; and means responsive to a predetermined low temperature of the cooling water in said cooling water conduit means for opening said dump valve means whereby the dumped refrigerant mixes with the absorber solution in the bottom of said housing and prevents a decrease in the pressure within said housing thereby preventing the temperature at which The liquid refrigerant vaporizes in the evaporator portion from dropping to the freezing point of the refrigerant.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 221 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said collecting and storing means includes a tray-like structure disposed below said chilled water conduit means.
