Abstract A COOLED POROUS PLUG DEVICE IN COMBINATION WITH A CONTINUOUS IGNITION SOURCE IS USED FOR BURNING OFF EXPLOSIVE MIXTURES OF CONTAMINATED RADIOLYTIC HYDROGEN-OXYGEN GAS FLOW DISCHARGED FROM THE STEAM TURBINE CYCLE OF A BOILING WATER NUCLEAR POWER REACTOR. OPTIONAL USE OF A SECOND COOLED POROUS PLUG IS SHOWN, THE SECOND POROUS PLUG BEING LOCATED DOWNSTREAM OF THE BURNER TO FUNCTION AS A HEAT EXCHANGER TO COOL THE COMBUSTION PRODUCTS FOR CONTROLLED CONDENSATION OF THE WATER VAPOR.
