Abstract
Abstract Seismic exploration is effected using a seismic transmitter and at least one receiver which are moved in a continuous manner at a constant distance apart while the transmitter transmits a continuous series of long signals and the received signals are recorded without interruption. The transmitted signals are then correlated with corresponding parts of recorded signals to obtain seismic information.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
209 words
A method of seismic exploration in a medium which comprises the steps of: a. providing a transmitter of long seismic signals formed of a series of discrete impulses and causing this transmitter to travel in a continuous manner relative to the medium, b. providing at least one receiver for reflected seismic signals and causing it to travel relative to the medium, at a constant distance from the transmitter, c. providing a recorder for signals received by said receiver and means for intercorrelating portions of the transmitted and received signals, d. operating said transmitter so that it transmits into said medium seismic signals which are received by said medium after having been reflected back through said medium by at least one seismic reflector, the transmission time of each said long signal being at least equal to the travel time of the seismic signals which reach said receiver by way of the furthest reflector, said transmitted signals following each other in a continuous manner and the received signals being recorded without interruption during the period of exploration along a selected area, and e. intercorrelating any portions of the transmitted signals with corresponding portions of the received signals as recorded to obtain trace information relating to successive points along each reflector explored.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
42 words
A method of exploration according to claim 1, wherein the said recorded signals are also intercorrelated with intermediate signals each of which is composed of an end portion of one transmitted signal followed by an initial portion of the next transmitted signal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
46 words
A method of exploration according to claim 1, wherein trace data characterizing each point on a reflector which is identified is obtained by a mixed operation of correlating and adding a plurality of substantially identical successive long signals and portions of signals corresponding to those received.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
35 words
A method of exploration according to claim 1 wherein each of long signals which is transmitted is formed of a series of discrete impulses of substantially constant amplitude conforming to a chance rate of occurrence.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
36 words
A method of exploration according to claim 4, wherein the said succession of long signals is obtained from a non-cyclic transmission of discrete impulses of substantially constant amplitude which conform to a chance rate of occurrence.
