Abstract A FLAMEPROOF POLYLACTAM COMPOSITION CONTAINING 20 TO 80% BY WEIGHT OF HYDRATED ALUMINA OR HYDRATED CALCIUM SULFATE IS MANUFACTURED BY FIRST HEATING THE FILLER TO A TEMPERATURE OF 100-300*C., MIXING THE FILLER WITH LACTAM MONOMER, POLYMERIZATION CATALYSTS AND INITIATORS, AND FINALLY HEATING THE MIXTURE UNDER ANHYDROUS CONDITIONS TO A TEMPERATURE OF 135 TO 170**C. FOR A TIME SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE POLYMERIZATION.
