Abstract A DRILLING FLUID COMPOSITION INCLUDES WATER, FLAXSEED GUM, GILSONITE, ASBESTOS, AND A STABILIZING AGENT, SUCH AS ETHOXYLATED NONYL PHENOL, OR ETHOXYLATED POLYPROPYLENE GLYCOL. THE WATER CAN BE FRESH OR SALTY. THE DRILLING FLUID CAN BE SUBSTANTIALLY CLAY-FREE. IT MAY CONTAIN OIL, A PRESERVATIVE, SUCH AS PARAFORMALDEHYDE, AND OTHER ADDITIVES, SUCH AS STARCH, IF DESIRED.
