A method of constructing copies of a light transmittive elongated record with information holographically recorded by means of a reference beam striking said record with rays perpendicular thereto along its length, comprising the steps of, drawing at a uniform velocity said record and a photopolymerizable copy detector in the closest possible contact through a coherent reconstructing radiation beam first incident upon said record and with rays thereof normal to the record along its length, said beam illuminating a length of said record significantly less than the total record length to be copied and said coherent radiation being of a wavelength to which said photopolymerizable copy detector is sensitive, and drawing the photopolymerizable copy detector along its length through an unmodulated radiation field that includes the wavelength of said coherent radiation in a manner for any given portion of the copy detector to be subjected to the unmodulated radiation a few seconds after leaving the area of said coherent reconstructing radiation beam, whereby a copy hologram record is produced.

Claim 5
Dependent Claim
38 words
The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the rays of said coherent reconstructing radiation beam further intersect said record in a direction across its width to result in the maximum possible intensity in a diffracted energy beam.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
182 words
Apparatus for making copies of an elongated hologram record containing a plurality of individual holograms along the length of said record in touching relationship with one another, each hologram containing a distinct piece of information and constructed with a collimated reference beam, comprising: means for drawing said hologram record at a uniform speed through a copying station, means for drawing an elongated photopolymer copy hologram detector past said reading station at the same uniform speed as said hologram record, means for applying a vacuum between said hologram record and said copy detector for holding said detector in intimate contact with said hologram record as they Pass through said copying station, means for generating and directing a coherent radiation beam against said hologram record in a manner that all rays thereof strike said record perpendicularly thereto in a direction along its continuous motion, thereby to diffract light onto said copy detector, and an unmodulated light means positioned in the path of said elongated photopolymer copy detector for exposing said detector at least a few seconds after it is exposed to said diffracted light.
