Abstract

Abstract A carpet sweeper to be moved back and forth by operating a handle is provided with a rotary cleaning brush adapted to be moved in contact with the floor by means of drive wheels on a sweeper body. The frame cover of the sweeper body is of a double wall structure made of a thin, lightweight synthetic resin plate. The sweeper body further comprises dust receptacles covering the under portion and positioned to the front and rear of the rotary brush, means for elevating the drive wheels and comb members to clean the rotary brush. The operating members for opening or closing the dust receptacles and for elevating means are disposed on the upper surface of the frame cover.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 243 words
A carpet sweeper having a rotary brush supported in the lower center portion of a frame cover having inner side walls with dust receptacle rotatably supported adjacent the front and rear of said rotary brush, drive wheels provided at the lower opposite sides of said frame cover for driving engagement with the floor, follower wheel means connected to said rotary brush and in frictional contact with said drive wheels for rotating said rotary brush, and pivotally mounted comb support means supporting the ends of first and second comb means extending along the length of said rotary brush, said comb means being positioned to be rocked by said pivotally mounted comb support means so that the teeth of one of said comb means moves into the bristles of said rotary brush against the direction of brush rotation and the teeth of the other of said comb means come off said brush into a position more above one of said dust receptacles, wherein said comb support means comprises first and second angle-shaped lever members connected to the ends of said first and second combs positioned on the upper portion of an inner side wall of said frame cover, a center portion of said angle-shaped levers being pivotally mounted on a transverse stay member extending between side walls of said frame cover for reinforcing said frame cover and an actuating push handle attached to said transverse stay member for moving said sweeper across a floor surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 243 words
