Abstract

Abstract A NON-WOVEN FILAMENTARY STRUCTURE HAVING SUPERIOR BULKINESS AND BULK-DURABILITY IS PRODUCED BY FEEDING A CONTINUOUS OR NON-CONTINUOUS MULTIFILAMENT, SUCH AS A POLYESTER TOW, INTO AN ELECTRIC POTENTIAL FIELD FORMED BETWEEN A PAIR OF ENDLESS BELTS MOVING AT AN EQUAL SPEED IN THE SAME DIRECTION, AT A SPEED NOT LOWER THAN THE SPEED AT WHICH THE ENDLESS BELTS ARE MOVING THEREBY EXPANDING THE MULTIFILAMENT IN A CONFIGURATION OF A NON-WOVEN FILAMENTARY STRUCTURE TO FILL THE ELECTRIC POTENTIAL FIELD LIKE COTTON CANDY, AND THEN WITHDRAWING THE STRUCTURE FROM THE ELECTRIC POTENTIAL FIELD. PREFERABLY, THE STARTING MULTIFILAMENT IS TREATED WITH AN ANTISTATIC AGENT SUCH AS ANIONIC AND NONIONIC SURFACTANTS PRIOR TO BEING FED INTO THE ELECTRICAL POTENTIAL FIELD.
