Abstract A SYSTEM FOR COUNTING PIECES OF LAUNDRY, OR THE LIKE, BY ATTACHING A PERMANENT MAGNET TO EACH PIECE AND PASSING THE PIECES THROUGH A CONVEYOR WITH MAGNETIC FIELD DETECTOR MOUNTED THEREON TO GENERATE PULSES CORRESPONDING TO THE PIECES AS THEY PASS BY, THE PULSES ARE COUNTED BY A COUNTER CIRCUIT ARRANGED TO UTILIZE THE SIGNAL ONLY IF THEIR STRENGTH EXCEEDS A PREDETERMINED LOWER THRESHOLD VALUE AND DO NOT EXCEED A PREDETERMINED UPPER LIMIT VALUE, IN ONE EMBODIMENT THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO UTILIZE A SIGNAL DETERMINED BY AN INTERVAL OF TIME IN THE VICINITY OF MAXIMUM DETECTED FIELD RATHER THAN THE TOTAL SIGNAL RECEIVED.
