Abstract DISCLOSED IN A PROCESS FOR THE RECOVERY OF BROMINE VALUES AS BR2 FROM ORGANIC BROMIDES. THE PROCESS INVOLVES REACTING THE ORGANIC BROMIDE WITH OXYGEN AT AN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST. THE CATALYST IS SELECTED FROM ONE OR MORE OF THE OXIDES OF CHROMIUM, VANADIUM, TUNGSTEN, MOLYBDENUM, CERIUM, URANIUM OR ALUMINUM.
