Abstract A LOW-DENSITY THERMAL INSULATION USABLE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES IN OXIDIZING ATMOSPHERES IS PREPARED BY PULP MOLDING A SLURRY OF INORGANIC FIBERS, IMPREGNATING THE MOLDED FIBROUS MASS WITH A BINDER OF AN INORGANIC SOL, GELATINIZING THE SOL, CURING THE GELATINIZED BINDER, DRYING THE COMPOSITE, AND THEREAFTER FIRING THE COMPOSITE FOR SINTERING THE BINDER.
