Abstract POLYVINYL CHLORIDE IS PREPARED BY CONTACTING GASEOUS VINYL CHLORIDE WITH A FREE RADICAL INITIATOR IN THE COMPLETE ABSENCE OF A LIQUID PHASE AND IN THE PRESENCE OF AN INERT SOLID, AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN ABOUT 40 AND 80*C. AND AT A PRESSURE ABOVE THE POLYVINYL CHLORIDE-GASEOUS VINYL CHLORIDE MODIFICATION POINT AND BELOW THE SATURATED VAPOR PRESSURE OF VINYL CHLORIDE.
