Abstract
Abstract A process for preparing intermediates useful in the preparation of diazepam and oxazepam type psycoleptic 1,4-benzodiazepines is described, which involves replacing in hydroxyaminoacetic acid, the hydrogen of the hydroxyl group attached to nitrogen and the hydrogen directly attached to nitrogen with acetyl groups, replacing the hydroxyl group attached to the carbonyl carbon with chlorine, and condensing the product with a 2-aminobenzophenone.
