Abstract CONTINUOUS-TONE OR LINE IMAGES CAN BE PRODUCED BY THE SILVER SALT DIFFUSION PROCESS BY IMAGEWISE EXPOSING A SILVER HALIDE EMULSION LAYER TRANSFERRING THE SILVER HALIDE FROM THE UNEXPOSED POSITIONS TO AN IMAGE-RECEIVING LAYER AND REDUCING THE TRANSFERRED SILVER HALIDE TO SILVER. PARTICULARLY USEFUL FOR THE IMAGE-RECEIVING LAYER IS A WATER INSOLUBLE MIXTURE OF CELLULOSE ACETATE AND AN ACETAL OF POLYVINYL ALCOHOL WHICH IS PERMEABLE TO MOISTURE.
