Claim 1
Independent Claim
188 words
Apparatus for cutting poles into sections, comprising: pole support platform means; pole binding band means shiftable toward said platform means to wrap around and bind poles thereto, and away from said platform means to release them; and cutoff saw means suspended adjacent said platform and shiftable along it to sever the poles into sections, including support means, and wherein said binding band means comprises a cantilever arm pivotally mounted on one end to said support means to swing vertically down toward and up away from said platform means, a band having one end affixed to said support means above said arm one end, extending around the second end of said arm, and having its second end affixed to said support means below said arm one end, the distance between said band one end and said arm one end being greater than the distance between said band second end and said arm one end, to cause said band to tighten as said arm is lowered toward said platform, and power means to lower said arm and band toward said platform to bind a group of poles on said platform.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
28 words
The apparatus in claim 1 wherein said platform has vertical and horizontal members, and including pole compacting means shiftable toward said platform means alongside said binding band means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
24 words
The apparatus in claim 2 wherein said compacting means is a pivotally mounted cantilever arm having power motor means for pivotally shifting said arm.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
15 words
The apparatus in claim 1 wherein said saw means is mounted on a swinging assembly.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
69 words
The apparatus in claim 4 Wherein said swinging assembly includes a generally parallelogram linkage having a fixed elevated beam, a pair of links pivotally depending from said fixed beam, and a suspended float beam pivotally attached to said links and having an extended end to which a cutoff saw is rotationally mounted, and power motor means to swing said linkage through a power cut stroke and a return stroke.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
24 words
The apparatus in claim 5 wherein the one link of said pair which is closest to said saw is longer than the other link.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
11 words
The apparatus in claim 6 wherein said links diverge slightly, downwardly.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
40 words
The apparatus in claim 6 wherein the end of said floating beam opposite said extended end is canted upwardly at an obtuse angle to the remainder thereof, and the shorter link of said pair is attached to said canted end.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
39 words
The apparatus in claim 5 including a biasing means attached to said parallelogram linkage in a manner to apply a constant restraining bias on said linkage against said power cut stroke to prevent too rapid feed of said saw.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
23 words
The apparatus in claim 9 wherein said biasing means is tension spring means extending between said floating beam and said fixed elevated beam.
