Abstract SHAPED NYLON (I.E. POLYAMIDE) ARTICLES HAVING GREATLY IMPROVED SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS ARE PROVIDED BY A PROCESS WHICH INVOLVES IONIZATION OF THE SURFACE AMIDE GROUPS BY A BRIEF EXPOSURE TO AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OF REDUCING ACIDS UNDER CAREFULLY CONTROLL CONDITIONS, FOLLOWED BY WASHING AND DRYING THE SURFACE. THE NYLON ARTICLES SO PRODUCED ARE EXCELLENTLY SUITED FOR COATING WITH METAL PLATE OR POLAR ORGANIC RESINS.
