Abstract

Abstract A process for directly producing metallic filaments and fibers from molten metal by extruding a stream of the molten metal into a froth quenchant. The froth serves to quickly solidify the molten metal stream without damaging inertial effects, thus making the process ideally suited for metals having a high latent heat of fusion and/or a high surface tension.
