Abstract THE LIFE OF PHOTOCONDUCTIVE INSULATING LAYERS USED IN ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC COPYING PROCESS IN EXTENDED AND THEIR QUALITY IS MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THEIR LIFE BY CONTACTING THE SURFACE AT LEAST PERIODICALLT DURING USE WITH A MATERIAL COMPRISING A FULORINATED HYDROCARBON POLYMER. FOR EXAMPLE, A TUFTED FIBROUS WEB OF POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE IS HELD IN CONTACT WITH THE PHOTOCONDUCTIVE SURFACE SUCH THAT RELATIVE MOTION OCCURS BETWEEN THE FIBROUS WEB AND THE SUFACE.
