Abstract
Abstract Thujopsene and thujopsene isomers derived from hibawood oil and American cedarwood oil when treated with substantially anhydrous protonating acids, suitably in the presence of an alkanoic acid containing from two to six carbon atoms, are isomerized to give a mixture of hydrocarbons including substantial amounts of alphaand beta- chamigrenes and novel C15H24 olefinic hydrocarbons rich in 6,8a-ethano-1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2,3,5,6,7,8,8aoctahydronaphthalene. These products are useful as intermediates in the preparation of compounds valuable in perfume compounding.
