Abstract FABRIC BLENDS OF CELLULOSIC AND POLYESTER FIBERS ARE RENDERED DURABLY FLAME-RETARDANT BY IMPREGNATING WITH (A) TETRAKIS(HYDROXYMETHYL)PHOSPHONIUM CHLORIDE AND UREA (OR A PRECONDENSATE OF THESE REACTANTS), (B) A REACTION PRODUCT OF MELAMINE WITH EITHER FORMALDEHYDE OR FORMALDEHYDE AND METHANOL, AND (C) A FATTY ACID ESTER OF POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL, AND FORMING INSOLUBLE REACTION PRODUCTS ON SAID FABRIC THE FATTY ACID ESTER OF POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL SERVES BOTH TO SOFTEN THE FABRIC AND TO CARRY FIREPROFFING REACTION PRODUCTS ONTO THE POLYESTER COMPONENT.
