Single handle faucet valve

Claim 2

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, cap means on said body for engaging and positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means in said retaining member for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the flat surface of the chamber, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane.

Claim 3

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, means for adjustably positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the the flat surface of the chamber, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc comprising a stop member fixed on said lever and rotatable therewith, said retaining member having an opening therein into which said stop member extends and having a configuration such as to limit the angular movement of said stop member when the lever is rotated and, in turn, thereby limiting the rotational movement of said control disc.

Claim 4

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, means for adjustably positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the the flat surface of the chamber, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc comprising a stop member fixed on said lever and rotatable therewith, said retaining member having an opening therein into which said stop member extends and having a configuration such as to limit the angular movement of said stop member when the lever is rotated and, in turn, thereby limiting the rotational movement of said control disc.

Claim 5

The combination set forth in claim 2 wherein said stop member has radially extending ears, said opening in said retaining member being noncircular and having side walls against which said ears engage to limit the rotational movement of said lever and, in turn, said control disc.

Claim 6

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and ouT of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary surface engaging said spherical member, cap means on said body for engaging and positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means in said retaining member for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the flat surface of the chamber, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, said means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc comprising a knob, a stop member fixed on said knob and rotatable therewith, means extending from said knob through said stop member and engaging said lever, said retaining member having an opening therein into which said stop member extends and having a configuration such as to limit the angular movement of said stop member when the lever is rotated and, in turn, thereby limiting the rotational movement of said control disc.

Claim 7

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and ouT of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary surface engaging said spherical member, cap means on said body for engaging and positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means in said retaining member for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the flat surface of the chamber, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, said means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc comprising a knob, a stop member fixed on said knob and rotatable therewith, means extending from said knob through said stop member and engaging said lever, said retaining member having an opening therein into which said stop member extends and having a configuration such as to limit the angular movement of said stop member when the lever is rotated and, in turn, thereby limiting the rotational movement of said control disc.

Claim 8

The combination set forth in claim 4 wherein said stop member has radially extending ears, said opening in said retaining member being noncircular and having side walls against which said ears engage to limit the rotational movement of said lever and, in turn, said control disc.

Claim 9

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, cap means on said body for engaging and positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means in said retaining member for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the flat surface of the chamber, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, said means interconnecting the end of said lever with said control disc comprising an opening in said control disc havIng polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last mentioned member having a polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal cross section and arcuate in vertical cross section.

Claim 10

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, cap means on said body for engaging and positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means in said retaining member for guiding said lever for swinging movement in a substantially single plane only at an angle to the flat surface of the chamber, means for limiting the rotational movement of said control disc, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc so that rotation of said lever rotates said control disc and swinging of said lever moves said control disc in said single plane, said means interconnecting the end of said lever with said control disc comprising an opening in said control disc havIng polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last mentioned member having a polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal cross section and arcuate in vertical cross section.

Claim 11

The combination set forth in claim 6 including a keyway extending vertically in the surface of said polygonal opening and a key on one surface of said interconnecting member engaging said keyway.

Claim 12

The combination set forth in claim 6 wherein said control disc, said sealing member, said retaining member and said interconnecting member are made of low friction plastic material which is rigid, non-deformable and resistant to hot water.

Claim 13

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, means for adjustably positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever for movement, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc, said means interconnecting the end of said lever with said control disc comprising an opening in said control disc having regular polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last-mentioned member having a complementary regular polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal cross section and arcuate in vertical cross section.

Claim 14

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, a spherical member fixed on said lever, said sealing member having a complementary spherical surface on the upper end thereof for engaging a lower surface portion of said spherical member, a retaining member having a complementary spherical surface on the lower end thereof for engaging an upper surface portion of said spherical member, means for adjustably positioning said retaining member so as to cause said complementary spherical surface to engage said spherical member and, in turn, causing said spherical member to bear against said sealing member, whereby said lever is journalled for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever for movement, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc, said means interconnecting the end of said lever with said control disc comprising an opening in said control disc having regular polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last-mentioned member having a complementary regular polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal cross section and arcuate in vertical cross section.

Claim 15

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, means for journalling said lever for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc, an opening in said control disc having regular polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces and having a keyway extending vertically in the surface thereof, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last-mentioned member having a complementary regular polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal crOss section and arcuate in vertical cross section and having a key on the surface thereof for engaging said keyway.

Claim 16

In a single handle faucet valve, the combination comprising: means defining a chamber, said chamber having a substantially flat wall surface along one wall, hot and cold water inlets extending through said surface to said chamber, a control disc having a complementary flat surface, said disc having spaced openings therein movable into and out of registry with said inlets, a sealing member spaced from said substantially flat wall surface, sealing means interposed between said sealing member and control disc providing a seal therebetween and yieldingly urging said control disc toward said substantially flat surface, a lever, means for journalling said lever for rotation on said sealing member, means for guiding said lever, and means interconnecting one end of said lever with said control disc, an opening in said control disc having regular polygonal cross section defining substantially vertical side surfaces and having a keyway extending vertically in the surface thereof, an interconnecting member fixed on the lower end of said lever, said last-mentioned member having a complementary regular polygonal horizontal cross section defining peripheral surfaces each of which is straight in horizontal crOss section and arcuate in vertical cross section and having a key on the surface thereof for engaging said keyway.
