Method and apparatus for making plastic tubing
Abstract
Abstract Peripheral segments of a cylindrical mandrel are reciprocally and successively moved in an axial direction on the mandrel as the latter is rotated. A tape is wrapped around the peripheral segments as the mandrel is rotated, and the reciprocal movement of said segments causes this tape to advance toward one end of the mandrel. As the tape advances it is alternately wound with filaments which are coated with resin and filaments which are uncoated. The tape and filament windings thereon are advanced by the reciprocal movement of the peripheral mandrel segments to a heater which surrounds the mandrel, where the resin on the coated filaments is cured to thereby form a rigid plastic tube which continuously moves off the mandrel.
