Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 76 words
A heat-recoverable article comprising a heat-recoverable tube and a tubular heating device positioned around the outside of said heat-recoverable tube, said heating device comprising an inner tubular heat shield means for conducting heat to said recoverable tube and preventing the application of excessively high temperature to said recoverable tube and means on the outer surface of said heat shield means for generating and imparting sufficient heat to said recoverable tube to cause said tube to heat-recover.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 76 words
A heat-recoverable article comprising a heat-recoverable tube and a tubular heating device positioned around the outside of said heat-recoverable tube, said heating device comprising an inner tubular heat shield means for conducting heat to said recoverable tube and preventing the application of excessively high temperature to said recoverable tube and means on the outer surface of said heat shield means for generating and imparting sufficient heat to said recoverable tube to cause said tube to heat-recover.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
The article of claim 1 wherein said means is a fibrous material impregnated with an oxidizing material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 11 words
The article of claim 2 wherein said fibrous material comprises cellulose.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
The article of claim 2 wherein said oxidizing agent is a mixture of potassium nitrate and sodium silicate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The article of claim 1 wherein said heat shield is a metal foil.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
The article of claim 1 wherein said heat shield is glass cloth.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
The article of claim 1 wherein said heating device is attached to said recoverable tube.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 77 words
A device for heating a heat-recoverable article to its recovery temperature comprising tubular heat shield means, adapted to be placed over and fit closely about and substantially cover a heat recoverable article, for conducting heat to said recoverable article and preventing the application of excessively high temperatures thereto and means on substantially the entire outer surface of said heat shield means for generating and imparting sufficient heat to said recoverable article to cause said article to heat-recover.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 77 words
A device for heating a heat-recoverable article to its recovery temperature comprising tubular heat shield means, adapted to be placed over and fit closely about and substantially cover a heat recoverable article, for conducting heat to said recoverable article and preventing the application of excessively high temperatures thereto and means on substantially the entire outer surface of said heat shield means for generating and imparting sufficient heat to said recoverable article to cause said article to heat-recover.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 36 words
The device of claim 8 wherein said heat shield means comprises a thermally conductive material, whereby said heat shield means acts as a heat sink and distributes evenly heat over the surface of said heat-recoverable article.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 62 words
The device of claim 8 wherein said means on said outer surface of said heat shield means comprises a layer of rapid heat generating material comprising a fibrous material having a relatively high surface area impregnated with a pyrotechnic material and a relatively slow heat generating layer comprising a fibrous material having a relatively low surface area impregnated with a pyrotechnic material.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 12 words
The device of claim 8 wherein said heat shield is metal foil.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 13 words
The device of claim 8 wherein said heat shield is a polymeric material.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 19 words
The device of claim 8 wherein the generation of heat in said outer layer is initiated by a flame.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 28 words
The device of claim 8 in which said means on the outer surface of said heat shield means comprises a heat generating material impregnated with a pyrotechnic material.
