Abstract

Abstract A development electrode placed in a xerographic development zone in close parallel relation with a moving latent image bearing member having a potential thereon between the image potential and background potential on the member and having means to redirect the flow of developer material moving through this region so that the developer material impinges against the surface of the member.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 185 words
In a xerographic developing apparatus of the type wherein a movable photosensitive plate is moved through a development zone in contact with a cascading flow of two component developer material to develop a latent electrostatic image thereon, the apparatus including means to move the plate in opposition to the flow of developer material, wherein at least a portion of said photosensitive plate is inverted in respect to the horizontal plane, an electrode positioned in the development zone in close parallel relation to the moving plate, at least a portion of the electrode overlying an inverted portion of the plate surface whereby said electrode is capable of redirecting the flow of developer material moving between the electrode and the inverted plate surface to impinge the developer material against the image bearing photosensitive plate, and means to electrically bias said electrode to a charge having a polarity similar to the polarity of the latent image on the plate surface and being of a magnitude greater than the charge in the non-imaged areas on the plate and less than the charge in the imaged areas on the plate.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 185 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said electrode positioned opposite the inverted portion of the plate has a notch formed therein for redirecting the flow of developer material moving between the electrode and the plate surface.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said electrode is biased to a potential between 50 and 150 volts greater than the potential in the non-imaged areas on the plate surface.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the notch formed in said electrode is wedge shaped, said wedge-shaped notch having an included angle of approximately 120* between the interior walls thereof.
