Abstract
Abstract This invention relates to novel methods for washing rigid materials such as glass bottles with a novel washing solution containing a novel inhibiting agent, which effects a synergistic inhibiting action, consisting of a combination of (1) a gluconate material such as sodium gluconate, (2) an amino-phosphonate such as amino tri(methylene phosphonic acid) and (3) an alkylidene diphosphonic acid such as 1-hydroxy, 1-ethylidene diphosphonic acid.

A washing composition useful in making a strongly alkaline washing solution consisting essentially of a combination of an alkali cleanser selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates and mixtures thereof and an inhibiting agent which consists of (1) from about 20 to about 45 percent by weight, based on the total weight of said agent, of a gluconate material selected from the group consisting of alkali metal gluconate, gluconic acid, heptagluconic acid and alkali metal heptagluconates, (2) from about 30 to about 60 percent by weight, based on the total weight of said agent of amino tri(methylene phosphonic acid) and (3) from about 30 to about 60 percent by weight based on the total weight of the composition of 1-hydroxy, ethylidene diphosphonic acid; the proportion by weight of said inhibiting agent to alkali cleanser being from 1:2 to about 1:40.
