Abstract

Abstract A magnetic recording device for ticket reading and interpreting and employing a novel read-record head mounting mechanism. The mechanism includes a clamping means which is rigidly secured to the rotatable shaft and a socket means connected to the clamping means for limited axial movement with respect to the clamping means. A biasing means between the clamping means and the socket means urges the socket away from the clamping means and thus away from the rotatable shaft.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 92 words
Apparatus for securing a head supporting structure with at least one read/record head mounted therein to permit limited axial movement of the supporting structure relative to a rotatable shaft comprising: a. a clamping means rigidly secured to the rotatable shaft; b. a socket means connected to said clamping means for limited axial movement with respect thereto; c. biasing means between said clamping means and said socket means for urging said socket means axially away from said clamping means; and d. holding means for securing the head supporting structure to said socket means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 92 words
Apparatus for securing a head supporting structure with at least one read/record head mounted therein to permit limited axial movement of the supporting structure relative to a rotatable shaft comprising: a. a clamping means rigidly secured to the rotatable shaft; b. a socket means connected to said clamping means for limited axial movement with respect thereto; c. biasing means between said clamping means and said socket means for urging said socket means axially away from said clamping means; and d. holding means for securing the head supporting structure to said socket means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 73 words
Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said holding means includes a first set of electrical contacts on one surface of said socket means and a second set of electrical contacts on an opposing surface of the head supporting structure, each contact in said first set being adapted to engage a corresponding contact in said second set to hold the head supporting structure in a given angular orientation relative to said socket means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 78 words
Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said holding means includes: a notched member protruding from one surface of said socket means; a complementary member protruding from an opposing surface of the head supporting structure, said notched member and said complementary member having grooved surfaces which form a continuous groove when the head supporting structure is secured to said socket means; and means fitting the continuous groove to help lock said notched member and said complementary member together.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said biasing means comprises a helically coiled spring coaxial with the rotatable shaft, said spring having one end abutting said clamping means and the other end abutting said socket means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 104 words
Apparatus as recited in claim 2 wherein said holding means further includes: a notched member protruding from the same surface of said socket means as said first set of electrical contacts; a complementary member protruding from the same surface of the head supporting structure as the second set of electrical contacts, said notched member and said complementary member having grooved surfaces which form a continuous groove when said contacts are engaged to hold the head supporting structure in the given angular orientation relative to said socket means; and means fitting the continuous groove to help lock said notched member and said complementary member together.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 14 words
Apparatus as recited in claim 5 wherein said groove fitting means comprises a C-Ring.
