Abstract ELASTIC HYDROXYLATED MONOVINYL ARENE-POLYDIENE-MONOVINYL ARENE BLOCK COPOLYMERS ARE PREPARED BY HYDROBORATION AND SUBSEQUENT OXIDATION TO THE HYDROXYLATED BLOCK COPOLYMER. THE HYDROBROMATING AGENTS INCLUDE DIBORANE, DISIAMYLBORANE AND 9-BOROBICYCLO(3.3.1)NONANE. THESE HYDROXYLATED BLOCK COPOLYMERS HAVE PROPERTIES WHICH ARE USEFUL FOR REINFORCING MATERIAL FOR NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC RUBBER, FOR MODIFICATION OF RUBBER-BASED ADHESIVES AND DUE TO THEIR PARTICULAR SWELLABILITY FOR FABRICATION OF DEVICES FOR SURGICAL IMPLANTATION AND FOR BLOOD CIRCULATION IN ANIMALS.
