Abstract DISCLOSED HEREIN ARE DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS WHICH INCLUDE A DETERGENT COMPOUND AND AT LEAST ONE BUILDER SALT. THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE BUILDER SALT IS AN ALKALI METAL SALT, AN AMMONIUM SALT OR MIXTURES THEREOF OF AN ALIPHATIC SATURATED POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID HAVING A LINEAR CARBON CHAIN OF FROM TWO TO TEN CARBON ATOMS, SALTS OF OXALIC AND SUCCINIC ACID ARE PREFERRED. NO POLYPHOSPHATES ARE REQUIRED.
