Abstract

Abstract A cooled porous plug device in combination with a continuous ignition source is used for burning off explosive mixtures of contaminated radiolytic hydrogen-oxygen gas flow discharged from the steam turbine cycle of a boiling water nuclear power reactor. Optional use of a second cooled porous plug is shown, the second porous plug being located downstream of the burner to function as a heat exchanger to cool the combustion products for controlled condensation of the water vapor.
