Abstract

Abstract An injection-molding machine with a set of stacked mold plates, defining several axially spaced mold cavities therebetween, includes an injection unit with one or more nozzles movable perpendicularly to the stack for contact with respective inlets, leading to the several cavities, which are aligned with these nozzles in the closed position of the multiple mold. The mold plates may be interconnected by a lazytong linkage or by lostmotion couplings for proper relative spacing in the open mold position.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 180 words
An injection-molding machine comprising a mold composed of a plurality of mold plates relatively movable between an open-mold and a closed-mold position along an axis perpendicular to their major surfaces, at least one of said mold plates being provided with inlet means leading from an edge thereof to a cavity formed therein, drive means for relatively moving said mold plates along said axis, resiliently mounted injection means offset from said axis including nozzle means alignable with said inlet means in said closed-mold position, said nozzle means being displaceable in a direction generally transverse to said axis, positioning means synchronized with said drive means for aligning said nozzle means with said inlet means in said closed-mold position preparatorily to introduction of a flow of hardenable plastic mass through said inlet means into each cavity, and bracing means on said mold normally disengaged from said injection means but engageable therewith upon such alignment for displacing said nozzle means in said generally transverse direction for operative coupling with said inlet means, such displacement being facilitated by the resilant mounting of said injection means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 180 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
A machine as defined in claim 1 wherein said injection means comprise a conduit extending substantially parallel to said axis alongside said mold, said nozzle means extending transversely from said conduit, said bracing means comprising a yoke rigid with a part of said mold straddling said conduit and a movable element on saId yoke engageable with said conduit.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
A machine as defined in claim 2 wherein said movable element is a fluid-operable piston.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
A machine as defined in claim 2 wherein said yoke is mounted on a mold plate adjoining said one of said mold plates.
