Abstract

Abstract A three frequency data separator is disclosed. Information which has been recorded on a magnetic storage medium using a three frequency recording technique is decoded by utilizing a phaselocked loop which generates signals at twice the data rate. A preamble existing in the machine and the phase-locked clock are used to generate a ''''window'''' in the middle of a cell. The ''''window'''' is checked to determine if there is a phase reversal in the middle of the cell; such a phase reversal indicates a ONE whereas the absence of a reversal indicates a ZERO.
