Abstract

Abstract The fire extinguishing characteristics of fire extinguishing agents, such as foam forming liquids, containing surface active substances, are enhanced by incorporating into the agent about 1 to 10% by weight of finely dispersed silica. Particularly advantageous results are obtained if the silica is present in fire extinguishing liquids in colloidally dissolved form.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 41 words
In an aqueous fire extinguishing composition, wherein the composition comprises a surface active substance, capable of being foamed into a fire fighting foam, the improvement which comprises that the aqueous composition contains between about 1 to 10% of finely dispersed silica.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 16 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 2, wherein said silica is colloidally dissolved in the water.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 12 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 3, wherein said silica contains OH-groups.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 49 words
In a method of combatting fire, wherein a liquid containing surface active substance is foamed and the foam is applied to the fire, the improvement which comprises that about 1 - 10 percent by weight of silica in fine particle form is added to the liquid or the foam.
