Abstract

Abstract A method for impregnating fabrics, more particularly but not exclusively glass cloths, with plastics such as synthetic resins still in the fluid state, wherein a roll of the fabric is first subjected to the action of a substance intended to enhance the intimacy of the bond between the fibers and the impregnating plastic, and is thereafter exposed to a vacuum together with said plastic, following which the plastic content of the fabric is calibrated and the impregnated fabric is finally packaged for storage.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 35 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the intimacy of the bond between the glass fibers and the synthetic resin is improved by exposing a roll of cloth to carbon dioxide at controlled temperature.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the calibration is effected, after drying, by controlled compression of the impregnated cloth.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the packaging includes the step of applying against at least one side of the impregnated fabric a non-permeable sheet-material which is chemically incompatible with the constituents of the impregnated cloth.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A method as claimed in claim 4, wherein the cloth covered with at least one packaging sheet is reformed into a roll and then stored at controlled temperatures.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the synthetic resin is maintained at a temperature corresponding to its optimum viscosity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein, prior to impregnation, the resin undergoes debubbling by agitation under a negative pressure.
