Abstract THE PREPARATION OF N-(TERTIARY-AMINOALKYL) DERIVATIVES OF BENZO(B)THIOPHENE -2- CARBOXAMIDE AND BENZOFURAN2-CARBOXAMIDE BY REACTING THE CORRESPONDING BENZO(B) THIOPHENE OR BENZO FURAN CARBOXYLIC ACID WITH N,N''CARBONYLDIIMIDAZOLE AND SEQUENTIALLY WITH A PRIMARY OR SECONDARY ALKYLAMINE, IS DESCRIBED. OTHER METHODS OF PREPARING THE COMPOUNDS OF THIS INVENTION ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. THE PRESENT COMPOUNDS POSSESS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS ACTIVITY AND ARE USEFUL AS TRANQUILIZERS, CNS DEPRESSANTS, HYPNOTICS AND MUSCLE RELAXANTS.
